Injury

Injuries are very common for an athlete and Psychosport takes them very seriously. Indeed, for several reasons, the period of recovery is not easy to manage (inactivity, uncertain and difficult return to competition,...). Two observations have to be taken into account.

1/ Many athletes and coaches think that during the period of an injury, one cannot do anything else but wait until recovery.

However, it has been shown that it is possible to:

  • Maintain the technical gestures, physical sensations and tactical schemes through exercises of mental imagery (visualization).
  • Manage the difficult period of injury in a constructive manner.
  • Train the mental aptitudes and prepare the comeback, especially regarding self-confidence and motivation.

2/ The occurrence of an injury clearly shows that practicing a sport intensively has a negative impact on the body and implies risks for one's health. An injury is therefore an opportunity to make the athlete aware of this and eventually to help him take measures so that he can prevent future problems.
